The beginning and prosperity of collecting contemporary works of art in Lithuania almost coincides with the rise of Lithuanian art in the 1950s and 1960s, which art researchers often call a time of change and challenge, and Ona Laimutė Šveistytė (b. 1926) is often mentioned in the recent history of the Lithuanian collectors' community.
Collection catalog Paintings. Laima Šveistytė's Collection presents a private art collection compiled by doctor Laima Šveistytė for several decades. It began with the work of painter Aloyzas Stasiulevičius, In Palanga Park, created in 1957. Currently, the collection contains more than one and a half hundred works of art, including works donated by the winners of the National Culture and Art Prize, other well-known Lithuanian artists or purchased by the collector herself. The collection includes works by Antanas Gudaitis, Leopoldas Surgailis, Valentinas Antanavičius, Saulė and Vincas Kisarauskas, Birutė Žilytė, Rimtautas Gibavičius, and others.
The book succinctly presents the cultural context of the 60s-80s and the situation of collecting works of art, facts from L. Šveistytė's life, painter Aloyzas Stasiulevičius' text about the collector, as well as a comprehensive catalog of the collection.
